Field: Pain Neuroimaging
Topic: Clinical Applications of Neuroimaging for Pain
My current research project is looking at the effect of pain on the brain in patients with chronic conditions such as temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and fibromyalgia by utilizing resting-state and task-based fMRI imaging. I'm currently exploring whole-brain analysis techniques to determine imaging biomarkers for various clinical uses like diagnostic, individual experiences of pain, and brain-state fluctuations. My goal is to better explain the individualized experience of pain so that better targeted therapies and treatments can be made to help these populations.
I have extensive experience in fMRI neuroimaging studies and analyses as well as training in repetitive transcranial magnetic resonance (rTMS) stimulation. My future goals are to use the skills and methods I've learned during my graduate and postdoctoral trainings to establish my own lab exploring biomarkers and new treatments for migraine & other headache disorders as well as opioid use disorder.
